Met-Net

The Met-Net is a new type of minilander for future Martian Surface Missions aimed at atmospheric investigations. The project is coordinated by FMI, who will buy essential development work from the BSC (Babakin Space Center). This project will select the Metlander concept as result of extensive trade-off analyses, and will provide the feasibility of the concept for Mars by manufacturing a full scale prototype and exposing the prototype to qualification tests. The spacecraft development took place during the years 2001 - 2003.

Measures

  • Science payload mass of the order of 1 kg
  • Atmospheric entry mass: < 10 kg
Small mass allows to spread tens of vehicles around Mars to produce a real atmospheric science network.

Aims

Aims at observations of on the surface:
  • Surface pressure, temperature, humidity, optical thickness - during descent phase: density, pressure & temperature
