Weather statistics at Christmas

The Christmas weather varies a lot from year to year.


On the left: Regional probability for a white Christmas. In Southwestern coast only every second Christmas is white. In Lappland the white Christmas prevails actually every year.
On the right: The average snow depth at 24th of December.
The statistics are taken from the period 1961-90.


The blue colour shows the average maximum and minimum temperatures of the Christmas Eve. The records and a year of a record are shown in red. Green colour indicates the average snow depth.

Both temperatures and snow depths varies extensively from Christmas to Christmas. See below!
The upper figure presents the daily maximum and daily minimum tempetarure in centigrades and the lower has snow depth in centimeters.







Helsinki is representing the weather conditions in Southern Finland, Jyväskylä in Central Finland and Sodankylä in Finnish Lappland.


In the upper figure the red curve presents the mean temperature in Centigrades and in the lower figure the snow depth in cm.
