Weather and Climate | Weather stations | Helsinki Testbed project
What is Helsinki Testbed ?
- The Helsinki Testbed project was started in 2005. Its goals broadly consist of mesoscale weather research, forecast and dispersion models development and verification, demonstration of integration of modern technologies with complete weather observation systems, end-user product development and demonstration and data distribution for public and research community.
- The initial project (01/2005-08/2007) was first designed to be periodic research project of mesoscale meteorology. Real time data was planned to be publicly available and measurements were to be done during specific measurement campaigns.
- Starting from September 2007 Testbed continues to serve as research and development platform for UbiCasting and other projects. For the extension period Finnish Meteorological Institute and Vaisala will run the network infrastructure now called Helsinki Testbed Baseline Network. At the same time the web site will continue to serve public at least until October 2009.
- Many Finnish industry and research institutes have participated Helsinki Testbed. Along with the Ubicasting project several new partners have joined in the core Testbed interest group. The main financier of the project is Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation (Tekes).
